Health & Wellness

There are three ski resorts about one hour’s drive away from Madrid in the Sierra de Guadarrama. They all rent out the necessary equipment and have a ski school where you can sign up for individual or group classes. Snow conditions are often poor (but some years are great). However, dropping your kids at school and being on your skis less than one hour later is one of the best aspects of Madrid life. On weekends, the resorts get really packed and if you want to make sure you get  into any of the resorts, you’d better leave Madrid early (7.30 a.m. at the latest).

Venta Arias
For those who are fond of cross-country skiing and snowshoes, the ideal place to go is the station of Navacerrada. You can rent out equipment (including sledges) from a small store based there.

La Pinilla

112 kms from Madrid, La Pinilla is a beautiful small ski resort (compared to the other ones). Slopes are very easy.

Valdesqui

Valdesqui is the largest ski resort near Madrid. Except for one black slope, the resort is accessible to average skiers. But when the sky is blue and the snow is good, even excellent skiers will enjoy their day.

Puerto de Navacerrada

The oldest (and closest-60 km from town) Madrid ski resort. It is not very big and you will not find any difficult slopes. Snowboarding is permitted on specific slopes.
