Exhibition Pierre Alechinsky on paper : The enfant terrible of art.

Alechinsky is the epitome of anti-conformism. As a child, he was expelled from school for refusing to play by the rules. Freedom is precisely what he is after in his art. He therefore joins the surrealist CoBrA movement (COpenhague-BRuxelles-Amsterdam), whose purpose is to create artistic forms which are not-contaminated by norms nor conventions, the ones expressed in primitive art similar to children’s drawings. The pencil line oughts to be free and guided by subconsciousness.
Alechinsky finds that freedom in japanese calligraphy, as well as in Chinese painter Wallace TIng’s artistic approach.
